West Nile Virus - The Problem |

The West Nile Virus (WNV) is a widely spread virus found in both tropical and temperate regions, which may cause encephalitis through mosquito bites.
WNV is quickly spreading across the US and Western Europe.
CDC reports 3630 cases of encephalitis/meningitis and 124 deaths in the US during 2007 due to WNV infections.
Because of global warming, the number of cases is expected to increase in the future. People aged 50 and above are candidates for vaccination.
At present there is no approved human vaccine in the market.
A number of different WNV vaccines are now in initial stages of development and testing. None is a peptide-based subunit vaccine.
